How to set up donation alerts in OBS Studio

Boostme alerts display donation messages on your broadcast. Add the widget to your OBS scene, run a test alert and prepare your public donation link for viewers.

Before you start: two different links

Your public donation link is for viewers: share it in your stream description or chat. Your private widget link is for OBS: paste it only into Browser Source settings. Do not publish it in descriptions, chats or screenshots.

Prepare your creator profile in Boostme Studio and open the OBS alerts section. In OBS Studio, choose the scene you will broadcast. Be ready to check both the scene and its audio during the test.

Connect the donation widget to OBS

  1. Enable alerts and copy your widget URL

Enable alerts in the OBS section in Boostme Studio and copy the private widget URL. Do not substitute your public creator page link.

  2. Add a Browser Source

In the OBS Sources panel, press +, choose Browser and give the source a clear name such as Boostme alerts.

  3. Set the URL and size

Paste the widget link into the URL field. Match the source size to your scene and position the alert. Keep the source visible and above any layers that could cover it.

  4. Send a test alert

Run a test from Studio. Check the text, position and sound in OBS. This is a sample alert and does not add money to your balance.

Troubleshoot missing alerts or sound

Check that the correct scene and Browser Source are visible. The URL must be your private widget link, not your public page. Make sure the source is inside the scene and not covered by another image. Check your internet connection, refresh the source and repeat the test.

For sound, check the OBS audio mixer, source volume and monitoring settings. Make a short local recording and listen to it to check broadcast audio. Adding the same widget as multiple sources can cause duplicate sound.

If a real donation has not appeared, check its payment status in Studio. An alert appears only after the payment is confirmed; a hidden message is not shown. A successful test does not confirm that a real payment was received.

Check before going live

Open your public donation link in another window and add it to your YouTube stream description. Run the test on the OBS scene you will actually broadcast, checking text readability and volume.

If your private widget URL becomes public, use the relevant tool in Studio to replace it and update the OBS source with the new link. Then run another test.

Frequently asked questions

Do I paste my donation page link into OBS?

Paste the private widget URL into OBS. Share the public donation page with viewers. These two addresses serve different purposes.

Do I need a real donation to test alerts?

No. Use the test alert in Studio to check visuals and sound. It does not transfer money or change your balance.

Can I receive donations without OBS?

Yes. Viewers can donate on your public Boostme creator page. The OBS widget is only needed to display alerts on your broadcast.
